Heart Harvest

We haven't noticed Neil Young among the artists in the collection of outlaw country and country-rock concert posters that line the walls of the AllGood Café, providing inspiration and looking down in seeming empathy as hangovers are tended to with spicy comfort food and coffee refills on Sunday (and Thursday, Friday and Saturday) mornings, but the AllGood's Rock 'n' Reel Wednesdays will feature him when they screen Neil Young: Heart of Gold. During the two-night stand at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium that is the centerpiece of the film, Young is joined by his wife, Pegi, Emmylou Harris and others as they perform Neil's folky hits and music from the album Prairie Wind, the third album in the trilogy begun with Harvest and Harvest Moon. The concert, committed to film by director Jonathan Demme, occurred shortly after Young underwent surgery following a brain aneurysm, so Heart of Gold not only showcases the music but also chronicles the preparations and conditions surrounding the performances. Watching a rockumentary may not be the most romantic thing one can do on Valentine's Day, but if your significant other consents you can be sure they are a keeper.
