Fear Is Not A Factor

Mencia's nemesis takes the Improv stage

By Darci Ratliff

Published on July 26, 2007

"Warning, Joe Rogan may be considered offensive to many people." That's the first line on the Improv's web bio for Rogan. Frankly, it's a bit of an exaggeration. I mean, a million people get offended by women wearing pants--everything's offensive to someone. Joe Rogan's simply loud and says "dick" and "pussy" a lot. He's not Lenny Bruce. He is, however, wielding the hammer of comedic justice and God love him for pointing it at Carlos Mencia. Rogan, who you might have loved on News Radio, and might have cringed with on Fear Factor, recently made news in the stand up circuit by confronting Mencia onstage and calling him a joke thief. He's building a reputation (whether intentionally or not) as the guy that's calling Mencia on his bullshit, in his face, and louder than anyone. So, who cares if you're offended by his stand-up routine? If you like stand-up comedy, and you have $25 bucks to blow, might as well blow it on Rogan rather than any of the other Mencia-esque hacks that roll through town. Joe Rogan performs Thursday through Saturday at the Addison Improv, 4980 Belt Line Road. Call 972-404-8501 or visit improvclubs.com.
