  "Elvis" Birthday Bash at Glass Cactus

  Gaylord Texan's Glass Cactus hosts the annual "Elvis" Birthday Bash, Concert, and impersonator contest. For the 18th year, Dave Tapley and his “Cavalcade of Stars” show band will provide Dallas/Fort Worth with the “Elvis” tribute concert. Also, “Cavalcade of Stars” member Al Nelson will perform an amazing tribute to the man Elvis called “The Voice”, Roy Orbison. Join us on Thursday January 8 at Gaylord Texan’s Glass Cactus nightclub for this unique tribute to “The King of Rock ‘n Roll”. Doors open at 5pm. $10 club admission applies. Impersonator contest starts at 7:00. Contestants are admitted for free and will perform to win prizes awarded by the judges.

  Sole Poets CD Release Party

  Sole Poets, the Dallas-based rock group, have released their much anticipated new CD “The Other Half of the Sky.”
  Kickoff for the CD release will be at 9pm this Friday, January 9, 2009, at Poor David’s Pub.
  Sole Poets front man, vocalist, writer and rhythm guitarist Dave Christensen, along with Dallas music legend and producer Alan Wooley (of Killbilly and Cartwright’s) have completed the Sole Poets second effort. This time around, Wooley made some major contributions in the recordings and will be performing with the group this Friday along with Spyche who sang backup on two tracks and David Mills’ Group who handled the keyboard work.   Now open at The Women’s Museum: An Institute for the Future in Fair Park: Diana Walker: Photojournalist, an exhibit of photographs and magazine covers featuring photos of notable figures such as American presidents, foreign dignitaries and political activists in candid, often intimate, settings.
  The photographs, on loan from the Smithsonian Institution, give visitors a behind-the-scenes look into the Oval Office and the impact it had on those who served America.
